Wherever we are heading, however much we need to understand ourselves, there is something about family that is intrinsically linked. We find ourselves in looking outside of ourselves sometimes in those relationships closest to us.

From the Heart
Our own life stories can open us up and heal us, they open the gateways to our souls and ultimately help us discover the real self within. Have you ever tried telling the story of your life to yourself, imagine you have no recollection of events or any previous knowledge. How would you explain the more difficult bits, those muddled bits, so that you can fully understand yourself.
We talk to ourselves all the time, what should we have for dinner, where shall we take the dog and all sorts of useless nonsense but very rarely do we ask ourselves who we are and where we have come from. Our own stories are the recipes for what makes us whole, the ingredients that go into pot that make us who we are. It’s not all sugar, we know there’s a little bitterness in there too, we have to uncover it all to understand.
My story is long, there are many episodes, it cannot be played out in one session. I might start at any part, it does not have to run in sequence, just as long as I learn from it when I’ve played it through. I want to be able to understand my own story because that is what makes me who I am, what is the point in our lives if we don’t gain something from them. Some of my issues, for want of a better word, have changed as I’ve been able to see events for what they actually were and therefore change my response. I’ve always been the abandoned child, from looking back over my life I can now see why I went onto marry a man just like my father, that he also abandoned me isn’t any great surprise and when I look at it now, the kindest thing he could have done for me. Some things I have have come to realise have been false memories, a lot in fact as when we can’t make sense of something we create it, going back over these memories I have been able to watch from a different perspective.
Have you ever read something you just have to keep on reading again, a poem or the chapter in a book, well I think in a way, that’s what our life should be like, we need to be able to go back and ensure we have fully understood the manuscript, make sure we got the right message. Do we really understand our own life stories as well as we understand our favourite piece of literature or film, it’s a shame but most of us don’t because other peoples stories are sometimes easier than our own to digest.
I like to find a space, when I say space I mean somewhere safe and quiet and sit with my memories, meditate maybe and walk through the story. Sometimes I imagine myself as an actor, studying a scene, I might give myself marks out of ten. I come back with a better understanding of myself now, I think it’s good to review our own behaviour, how else will we change if it is necessary.
What if I told you it was possible to go forward too, watch your future self, see your best possible self, learn from them and bring ideas back to this moment. Would you give it a go?

Like the flower, each one of us will reach the point of opening. We might hang back a little, but there comes a point in our lives where we just need to trust that nature knows best and go with what feels natural.

I’m a lover of nature and a little spiritual, on the rare occasion I might be a social butterfly and a blogger. The internet gets a lot of criticism but it’s not all bad, it can transform people. Those people who might be sitting at home alone and lonely, becoming involved in a community such as this. People liking their work, liking posts and making comments. My new name for this thing we are involved in is Butterfly Net, butterfly for transformation, net I think you get 😉

No my dear, that’s quite enough,
I’m fully satisfied.
Yes I did have second helpings,
I gave it another try.
I couldn’t get another thing down,
yes, that was plenty.
No, I can assure you dear,
my stomach is far from empty.
I am well and truly sated,
I couldn’t face anything else.
Please don’t feed me any more,
that was just fine by itself.
No, I couldn’t possibly face,
any more cheese and crackers.
I don’t think I’ll eat for a week,
I’m definitely not a slacker.
I’m starting to get a little concerned,
I’ve eaten too much of this stuff.
I can honestly assure you dear,
I really have had enough.
Is there another motive here,
like something in the food.
No I’m really not joking,
nor would I want to be rude
I think your trying to choke me,
please pass me the red wine.
I just need to rinse my mouth out,
it surely must be home time.

We’re told time is of the essence, a fact the whole world knows.
We read the time the same old way, as those days so long ago.
Time’s still measured by the hour, which is sixty minutes long.
Once the hands go round the clock, you know your hour’s gone.
Time here on earth has great control, as it measures everything.
From the minute the bank opens, to how long he might be king.
It can be seen in days and years, a number we spend on the earth.
Counted up on that final day, since the very moment of our birth.
They say that time is all we have and one day it will be to late.
As time runs out on earth too quick, each of us have this fate.
Just a blink and the day has gone, I really don’t know where it goes.
Time is quite extraordinary, in that it always seams to go.
But what if time is all made up, just an idea made of man.
What if there was no such thing, since all of life began.
What if it all happens now, or maybe in some parallel.
From birth and through to dying, honestly who could tell.
What if we turn off the clocks, or simply turn them back.
Would the world stop spinning, would that be the end of that.
What if we just thought of now, for us to get things done.
With no time to worry us, would it be so much more fun.
What if we could travel back, or forward just the same.
Make amends and put things right, even wipe out any pain.
If everything just happens now, and not in some place else .
Wouldn’t now just be space, to make the most of ourselves.

It was more than a little chaotic,
but I wasn’t going to fail.
I’ve done that post-a-day so long,
I would certainly prevail.
So at ten minutes to midnight,
yes, chaotic was the word.
I was trying to be philosophical,
which is totally absurd.
But I got there at the last minute,
I hope that you’ll agree.
Or at least pretend your happy,
to see that post from me 😉

If we could look back on the path we have taken to reach this point, how many of us would fully understand our life stories, are we not just products of our experiences? If we are to fully understand ourselves and move forward, it is helpful to look the events that brought us to this point. As an observer, stand a little to the side and play out those scenes. What did we learn from those difficult episodes, what do we understand now and how can we care for ourselves moving on?

Dearest universe, could you please oblige,
and help me find my way.
I find inspiration comes into my head,
but nothing really stays.
I want to apply myself and be worthwhile,
try to do some good.
I’d love to write about love and kindness,
I’m also told I should.
But that’s a dream and a hobby too,
not how I will live each day.
I want to work with what I love,
but also something that pays.
I like to create and I like to inspire,
I like to help people recover.
I understand trauma and listen too,
I’m a bit of an earth mother.
Can you direct me to where I should be,
send me on my way.
In anticipation, with kindest regards,
oh, please don’t you delay.
Even on the bleakest winters day the sun still rises each day, birds continue to call in the dawn and nature unfolds as it should. There is a beauty in the stillness of winter just as there is during difficult episodes in our own lives if we look for them. Find the beauty around you, find it in silence, find it in hope and find it natures messages.
