Your Smile

I saw your smile on the carpet today, I hadn’t seen it before.

I see your smile all over the place, each day I see more and more.

Your smile so wide, on precious lips, I remember it so clear.

Smiling now throughout my days, it’s like you are still near.

*

I saw your hair at a cafe as I passed, I stopped my heart beating fast.

Golden ringlets with a mind of their own, waving at those walking past.

Hair of an angel, not common at all, but the woman was not you.

I had to look close, just to make sure, as she had your bone structure too.

*

I saw your hand on a checkout girl, and another one in the bank.

Hands that helped me all my life, hands I owe so much thanks.

Gentle hands so full of care, with the touch of an angel dear.

I remember holding those hands as you left, the memories still very clear.

*

I chase you down the street sometimes, pass you on the stairs.

See you in a cars traveling out of town, but know your not really there.

Memories etched deeply into my mind,  now jumping out into my days.

I feel like I still have you here in my world, that you’ll travel with me on my way.

Dreaming

What is a dream, it’s so hard to see

Is it a book in our minds that we read

With reams of pages turning fast

A book that’s short and never lasts

What is a dream, can we really hear

The audible bits that seem so clear

Action through my dream as I walk

That don’t make a sound, but I hear you talk

What is a dream, can we truly feel

As we are touched it appears so real

At other times, when we reach out

Our arms are left empty, no feeling about

What is a dream, do we fly high

As the things we see go flying by

Scenery changes as quick as you like

From brightest day to darkest night

What is a dream, can we honestly eat

The fruit I taste, appears so sweet

But when I think more, it’s very rare

That I even consider eating there

What is a dream, can we just speak

As when I try it comes out so weak

Sometimes I really try to cry out

But the noises I make will not come about

What is a dream, can we plan before

Can we book our dreams, then some more

Because if I could plan my dream today

It wouldn’t end with you going away

Morning View

Blue is the sky from my window today

Birds high in the sky, maybe flying away

A fluffy white cloud, a slither of white

I’ve a feeling today might just be alright

This time of year you just never can tell

Last days of sunshine, a gift from a spell

Squirrels jumping, on leaves on the floor

Today is for playing, there’s not many more

Universal Dream

Are we awake right now, living in the minute

or we just dreaming, just thinking we’re in it

is all of this an illusion, created by our minds

could it be we are asleep, not even humankind.

Is the planet our creation, but not really here

just all experiencing the dream, so very clear

And if that is the case, oh, where in hell are we

are we just a stream of thought, nothing else can see.

Always Ask the Question Why

Always ask the question why,

my grandfather said to me.

He gave me a diary and a pen,

the words inscribed to see.

He was a man of intellect,

he was a man of vision.

Reading at his writing desk,

not watching television.

We used to sit and talk for hours,

exploring many things.

Why the world was round,

what literature meant to him.

He taught me to philosophise,

to think a little more.

He instilled the trait in me,

keep asking until I’m sure.

It will take so many lifetimes,

there’s multitudes to learn.

Not leaving doubts unanswered,

a candle I have to burn.

Every puzzle has a final piece,

just to slot in place to see.

Always ask the question why,

my grandfather said to me.

Your life is just an illusion, you will realise it one day

masquerade without the ball, why care what others say

the mask you wear to cover up, does not fit your face

with a semblance of dignity, you’d get out of this race.

Why do you hide your true self, behind this gross facade

keeping this act ongoing, must be so incredibly hard

the veil in which you stand behind, is wearing very thin

I suggest you face reality and let you real friends in.

Writers Write

So your mind is full of  random words,

weird sentences in parts.

You want to get it down somehow,

but don’t know where to start.

So you want to be a writer,

maybe write that book one day.

Writers, write you know not talk,

that is all that I can say.

So you have read all the classics,

although your not too sure.

Plan to read more before you write,

as ideas you want to store.

You want to write a blockbuster,

that would work as a screenplay.

Writers, write you know not talk,

that is all that I can say.

Ideas pop into your mind,

but you never jot them down.

and then they pop right out again,

they are nowhere to be found.

Your looking for inspiration,

until then plan is vague.

Writers, write you know not talk,

that is all that I can say.

Your going to buy some post it notes,

to capture all your dreams.

Leave some paper by your bed,

you won’t be needing reams.

Your going to write tomorrow,

or maybe the next day.

Writers, write you know not talk,

that is all that I can say.

You worry about what others will think,

your not good at criticism.

You’ll keep your writing to yourself,

until you find your rhythm.

Then you’ll emerge a great writer,

it’s what the critics will say.

Writers, write you know not talk,

that is all that I can say.

Storm

IMG_0932

Looking out my window, it is so clear that you are there,

whipping the trees like custard, a tile flying in the air.

birds have flown to outwit you, or hiding in the trees,

hard rain washing windows, though it’s difficult to see.

Who knew a storm was coming, did the weatherman lie,

did you sneak up from nowhere, to take us by surprise.

Bang, and the bin fell over, the garbage is doing a dance

will you be gone by lunchtime, is there the slightest chance?

Courage

Courage and strength come with perserverence.

Finding these qualities comes through our endurance.

We go through life constantly coming up against difficulties, find ourselves in situations where we need to gather all our strength to succeed, achieve or reach our goal.  Life has a way of presenting these obstacles just at a time we don’t need them.

We endure these periods by going within and somehow finding the strength to continue, for however long it takes and sometime this might be years.  Through our ability to find this strength in times of need, however hard it appears to be at the times, we develop an inward strength, one that will see us through our lives, strengthen our spirit and see us along the way.

Courage is developed in the hard knock school of life.  It is a quality that comes through the  experience and endurance of pain.  It is gained through love that is not returned but still given out, it is gained through loneliness, poverty, grief and loss. Courage is gained in a multitude of ways but it builds us and makes us into the people we are today.

Courage strengthens the spirit and when we strengthen our spirit we are more able to live as our true selves, not afraid of what others think of us, happy to accept criticism but  at the same time be able to speak our own truth.  We are no longer sheep and if necessary we can stand firm and face any opposition.

So whatever lessons are ahead of us we have to see them as such and know we can endure them and strengthen our spirits and become better, stronger, people.
