Self Examination

Self examination is to look into ourselves deeply, in truth and without ego. This can be beneficial to our development and growth if it is done in honesty.  It is essential that we consider all aspects of the self, the areas we have excelled in and those we continue to struggle with.  To relentlessly focus only at the areas in which we have failed or need improvement does not do justice to the whole self.  Recognise those things that come naturally, such as empathy and love and consider how you will do better in those areas in which you struggle.  When we grow from soil that is nourished and fed we grow beautifully.

Life Stories

Our own life stories can open us up and heal us, they open the gateways to our souls and ultimately help us discover the real self within.  Have you ever tried telling the story of your life to yourself, imagine you have no recollection of events or any previous knowledge.  How would you explain the more difficult bits, those muddled bits, so that you can fully understand yourself.

We talk to ourselves all the time, what should we have for dinner, where shall we take the dog and all sorts of useless nonsense but very rarely do we ask ourselves who we are and where we have come from.  Our own stories are the recipes for what makes us whole, the ingredients that go into pot that make us who we are.   It’s not all sugar, we know there’s a little bitterness in there too, we have to uncover it all to understand.

My story is long, there are many episodes, it cannot be played out in one session.  I might start at any part, it does not have to run in sequence, just as long as I learn from it when I’ve played it through.  I want to be able to understand my own story because that is what makes me who I am, what is the point in our lives if we don’t gain something from them.  Some of my issues, for want of a better word, have changed as I’ve been able to see events for what they actually were and therefore change my response.  I’ve always been the abandoned child, from looking back over my life I can now see why I went onto marry a man just like my father, that he also abandoned me isn’t any great surprise and when I look at it now, the kindest thing he could have done for me.  Some things I have have come to  realise have been false memories, a lot in fact as when we can’t make sense of something we create it, going back over these memories I have been able to watch from a different perspective.

Have you ever read something you just have to keep on reading again, a poem or the chapter in a book, well I think in a way, that’s what our life should be like, we need to be able to go back and ensure we have fully understood the manuscript, make sure we got the right message.  Do we really understand our own life stories as well as we understand our favourite piece of literature or film, it’s a shame but most of us don’t because other  peoples stories are sometimes easier than our own to digest.

I like to find a space, when I say space I mean somewhere safe and quiet and sit with my memories, meditate maybe and walk through the story.  Sometimes I imagine myself as an actor, studying a scene, I might give myself marks out of ten.  I come back with a better understanding of myself now, I think it’s good to review our own behaviour, how else will we change if it is necessary.

What if I told you it was possible to go forward too, watch your future self, see your best possible self, learn from them and bring ideas back to this moment.  Would you give it a go?

How Deep?

So what is great depth

and how far does it go.

Is it found in a place,

where nobody goes.

How deep should we travel,

is it found in our minds.

Like the deepening of thought,

in philosophy we find.

Who knows we’ve been there,

how would one know.

As to look at another,

the mind does not show.

To ponder on questions,

does not tell us much.

So how far is great depth,

could it be beyond touch.

Finding Love

Today  I’ll meditate on love,

a love that’s hard to find.

It seems to come right down the list,

on most of humankind.

For wealth’s a bigger topic,

that seems to be the way.

My wish to see more love out there,

I’d love to find it today.

Why is the world so insular,

why do we have these walls.

If we were more kind and loving,

there’d be enough for all

So today I’ll meditate on love,

the love I want to find

I hope that others join me,

those out there who are kind.

Relish – DP

Find time in the day to be at one with yourself, find space and silence to sit and do nothing.  To do nothing but clear your mind.  Relish in the stillness you find there, breathe it in and become part of it.  Be at one with nature, as the flower is in a garden swaying in the breeze of life.

In response to the Daily Prompt – Relish

Awareness

img_2953

More and more now I am aware,

reclaiming what was mine.

the ego has been holding it,

but now, has come the time.

To practice an awareness,

being conscious of what I do,

I want to take life slowly now,

with focus on what is true.

The lessons in my unconscious,

I  mean to learn again,

making sure I got them right,

through this I can only gain.

When I look upon the world,

the colours and the sounds,

a beautiful picture is painted,

it is what my awareness has found.

I feel like I have been finely tuned,

and that I can finally see.

All the wonder of this world,

in which I can just be.

Awakening

img_2160

My awakening has been subtle,

just creeping up on me,

it wasn’t so instantaneous,

where I could suddenly see.

More like a silent creeper,

entwining around my heart.

Now I find where I was blind,

I now know where to start.

I don’t feel that it’s enlightenment,

I’m just far more awake,

as in this physical body,

there’s decisions I should make.

I feel that I have woken up,

connected much more to source.

There’s still so much I have to learn,

that’s obvious of course.

Now that I have woken up,

I’m much happier with my life,

I can look from outside myself,

no longer drawn to strife.

I sit in silent contemplation,

on that, that I don’t know,

allowing feelings to come up,

to see what they will show.

When emotions come to surface,

I see what they will say,

acknowledge and allow them in,

for a while they’ll stay.

It’s really just acceptance,

of the soul I truly am,

there is no rush or certain time,

in which I should understand.

Clearing the Mind

img_2505

It’s a bit like clearing spiders webs,

when trying to clear my mind

With random thoughts suspended,

on trails I left behind

Venture through dark passages,

wade murky depths as well

To chase the monsters lurking there,

not a place to dwell

I’m searching for a crystal pool,

it’s so calm and very still

 Casting to catch inspiration,

link intention and free will

Paint a picture in the font,

then bring it home with me

Splash it high on skies above,

so that I can’t help but see

My quest to sort my mind out,

might take me many years.

With a range of wild emotions,

glued together with my tears

Finding a State of Being

IMG_1936

When we sit in silence and put away the ego, we see through all self images and understand our own ingrained thought patterns.  From here we can connect with our true being and realise our potential.

Silence is a gift that in as much as it is free and available to every single one of us, it is often beyond our grasp.  Life takes over and we don’t find those minutes we need to just sit with ourselves.

Absolute silence is probably impossible in our busy lives with constant noise around us.  Even deep in the forest there will be the sounds of leaves falling, twigs snapping, rivers trickling and the wind gently blowing.

We can still attempt to find the silence within by just switching off outside influences, shutting down and going within to find a naturally peaceful state of being.  Rest is this sensation and enjoy our own natural state of consciousness.

It took me a long time to discover the joy of silence.  The point of silence for me is to reach a place of self reflection and understanding, find  clarity and my own natural intuitive wisdom.
