Nature Lessons 179

Our senses help us make sense of the world, sense of touch, smell and sight assist us in navigating the world around us. But what about our intuition, our sense that something is afoot maybe, those feelings inside, pictures in our head, the things we just know. How much do we trust this sense, the one connected to self.

Fine

When we say ‘I am fine’ in response to a ‘how are you?’, I wonder which part of the self is the ‘I’ that is fine, the physical, mental self usually I would imagine.  But what about the whole self, the deeper and somewhat undiscovered self, the being within.  I wonder on this journey if we are really ever altogether fine, because we are usually in the process of searching, we spend our lives searching for ourselves and when we find ourselves, I doubt very much if we would use the word fine, I think we might say ‘I am complete’.

You of the Shadows

I saw you in those shadows,

but you never walked on in.

You were always watching,

considered mostly everything.

Today you came to centre,

that mirror opened wide.

I walked in to join you there,

in the place that you reside.

I see you now much clearer,

in the etchings on my face.

Turning from the mirror now,

but I know you leave a trace.

Suppose it’s time to join up,

we’re heading the same way.

It’s time for me to face you,

as all those things I never say.

Nature Lessons 142

Our constant thoughts prevent us from just being, they keep us occupied and away from ourselves.  Can you imagine a life without all these systems that keep us occupied, where like the flowers in nature, we can just ‘be’.  Flowers teach us to put away our thoughts and come into being, they teach us to grow.

Self Examination

Self examination is to look into ourselves deeply, in truth and without ego. This can be beneficial to our development and growth if it is done in honesty.  It is essential that we consider all aspects of the self, the areas we have excelled in and those we continue to struggle with.  To relentlessly focus only at the areas in which we have failed or need improvement does not do justice to the whole self.  Recognise those things that come naturally, such as empathy and love and consider how you will do better in those areas in which you struggle.  When we grow from soil that is nourished and fed we grow beautifully.

Nature Lessons 99

If we stop and take a good look at ourselves, peal back those layers like the petals of a flower, we will find the true self.  The self that is at the heart of each of us, that which is full of love and forgiveness, that which does not judge and simply knows us in truth.  Think about those layers, can you allow any of them to fall away, can you find your heart centre?
