Pluck of the Duck

IMG_6659

So if you really want to eat me,

you will have to catch me first.

I will not make it easy for you,

I’m fast so you’ll work up a thirst.

I’m called duck as I have pluck,

I won’t give up life just like that.

If you really are that inclined,

why don’t you eat your pet cat.

Oh yes, my beak is quite a tool,

I’ll go first for your eyes if I can.

Really I’d think about it my friend,

why don’t you become a vegan.

I can’t quite get my head around the fact that people want to eat these beautiful creatures, life and let live they say, but surely that goes for all. ~

  1. Nice to meet a duck that can protect herself so well πŸ™‚
They tell me duck is very tasty. They say the same about Venison – notice how they avoid using the word deer (who’d want to admit to eating a creature that’s pure poetry in motion?) – but I wouldn’t know. I stopped eating meat before I got round to trying them.

      1. Ugh! Chicken farming! That’s the worst.
I rarely have anything meat-like, unless I go round to my my vegan brother for a meal. The next step is giving up cheese, but I feel like crying every time I think about it πŸ˜‰

      2. I was vegan for eight months, I was so ill, always going down with something. I studied the diet, made it varied and got all the nutrients recommended but it didn’t suit me. I was disappointed but knew it wasn’t for me. I eat eggs and cheese occasionally but not milk, I stick to soya or another nut milk.

      3. We’re all different. Good for you for trying. I know people who say they had the same trouble when they went vegetarian.
I don’t like soya milk, and I’m not convinced that we should be growing so much soya. I’m going through nut milks at the moment, looking for the right one. Coconut is the best I’ve found so far.

      4. I bought some oat a few weeks ago, but my (vegan) son ran off with it before I tried it. I have to go to Tesco for it, and I haven’t been there since, as I hate the place.
Is that ethical supermarket still Brighton still open? I don’t remember where it was, exactly, but I saw it from a bus, about three year ago when I was working at a campsite near Horsted Keynes.
