Who do you see when you look into the mirror, do you recognise yourself as the person you have always been or is there a new and deeper image coming through now. How closely are you looking at yourself, can you look beyond the outer surface and see and feel your own heart? Does love you give out shine back at you through your reflection? If not, wipe the mirror and look again.

I do not see myself in the mirror often, but yes, I cannot escape the metaphorical mirror of thoughts. With introspection, the reflections are with clarity and sometimes the brutal truth awaits, only to be confronted with probing questions. Most intense debate takes place with this reflection of Self. The illusion of duality is within, but the mirror erases the thin line to arrive at a fair trial. Wiping the focus with new thoughts can bring sharp clarity. 🙂

Thanks for your thoughtful addition to this post Amitav, the metaphorical mirror cannot be escaped but can also assist us in understanding better what it is we project. Introspection, will always bring something new to ponder : )

Yes, once we become familiar to that reflection of our self then we are more prepared to stand in front of the other mirror with confidence. 🙂

Hopefully with an understanding of the depth that lies beyond the surface, self knowledge in itself cleans the mirror 🙂

That is the key to maneuver through the winding and distracting labyrinths of a mundane journey. But with clarity, we can choose and decide on the direction, which could be the opposing direction but more rewarding in the long run.

While we have the time and intent, I cannot think of a better pursuit. To understand and recognise ourselves is a worthy cause.

Always is. You have the right questions to ask and have answers to the usual perplexing questions which can jeopardize life or challenge. You can gauge both sides of the spectrum and have preparedness to be the mentor, which the present and future generation needs.

The student becomes the teacher and vice versa, there is always more to learn, but what is life without questions. It is so true, that the wiser I get the less I know, but I like to think and assist others in finding their own answers, because our answers might not be the same.

That’s true. You give them the right questions to let them seek the answers. We have been playing the cliched tracks of questions based on information forcefully fed to us. We have to free the mind, gift them the questions and they alone can find out the answers with guidance. When I started writing about philosophy and penning down poems, I feel minuscule, as the Universe and life has so many things to teach me (not conventional teaching of course) I am a seeker every day and clueless and doubtful, which prompts me to know more.

That really resonates with me, I feel the same, but like you, love the journey. I don’t believe we will ever reach the conclusions, the answers are to vast and beyond our present comprehension but I believe we get closer. Sometimes for a moment in the middle of the night I might make sense of something only to loose it as quickly as it came, but I am happy to carry on questioning 🙂

There are no conclusion because even as we speak there is change happening, in me and around us. After all, we are all particles and atoms of the Universe. Only fools speak with authority that they have reached a definitive destination to bask in the laurels.
That moment of reckoning is not lost, it is safe in the subconscious mind, waiting for an apt moment to trigger your mind again. Thoughts are never lost, as they resonate and float along with the eternal rhythm. Sound and thought are vibrations which we fail to pick up because we have not sharpened our senses and do not use them at an optimum level, just is the case with our brain. When alignment happens gradually, the questions ans subtle thoughts will visit often and new thinking will emerge resulting in more knowledge; prepared with futuristic questions.

This is interesting, in that it gets me thinking again, if we are particles and atoms, which I agree with, it would be impossible to reach a definitive answer while we continue to remain separate from the whole.
Yes we continue to change every moment, gaining something new and loosing bits of us too. I do agree and think the answers we are seeking are in that subconscious mind, the all knowing yet hard to find place along with all the answers and questions we have forgotten already.
I do enjoy our discussions Amitav, they always bring up something new for me to think about.

No wonder, eternity we are and soul is the dimension of another reality. It carries the answers we seek. Yet, everyone is in a hurry to join the bandwagon. Seclusion, solitariness, and being introspective done with a healthy focus and dedication may appear to be a aberration for the crowd, but answers of such value won’t come to distracted ones.
It’s always a pleasure to have these philosophical discussions. And ones own logical inferences are important instead of the memorized jargons and quoting every philosopher who waked the earth till now. Their works is a guidance but we need to arrive at our own answers and take their thoughts ahead and contribute meaningfully.

I have never been able to quote research, where I get an idea because I forget, I understand the concept but forget the source of the information unless it is something very obvious. I think this is probably helpful for me, because I sort of have to come to my own conclusions, work things out from the guidance I do remember. I’ve never thought of it this way and cursed myself for my poor memory but now I am looking at it from another viewpoint I find it helpful. I have always wanted to be more academic, but maybe I should be happy with my inquisitive, problem solving mind 😉

All are perceptions and there are flaws in everyone of them. Social environment has changed and so has human reaction and overall society, and how they communicate and changed behavioral patterns. New age, new challenges, and obviously new way of thinking is required in philosophy and psychology; building new structures over the old foundations. I never memorize anything and neither do I give references and quote verbatim. I infer and come up with my thoughts. I love having a poor memory. 🙂 Every challenge has to be changed in the present context. Why give Penicillin shot for every illness.

We are both the same it seams, we both have an interest in both philosophy and psychology and also have poor memories. I agree, new age brings new questions and some of the answers are old. But where are today’s pioneers, who is saying something new? Interesting, I suppose it is the likes of us 😉
If either of us ever write a book, we might struggle if asked to quote our research, I certainly would anyway 🙂

See, you have listed out the similarities quite distinctly. 😀 Well, I am sorry to say, Philosophy has become a pop culture sensation. Everyone known vaguely about some words and definitions but they also try out different things and the spiritual journey becomes confused. It is similar to bodybuilding with numerous exercises and Nutrient shakes to get faster results. But, it’s just superficial pursuit. To remain a lifelong student of philosophy one must pursue a certain lifestyle and certainly make some adjustments, and of course should not fight over my philosophy is more powerful than yours (which happens). Philosophy and it basic tenets are Universal. I keep away from certain blogs because I have seen them writing excessively long posts with scooped up theories from here and there, sans the individual interpretations. I do not want to be critical, let them be. 🙂

Were are drawn to what inspires us and stimulates the mind and put off by repetitiveness alike.
I do look at other avenues to understand myself, meditation, satsang etc. but only to what feels right for me. What sits with me well and not because I’m told I need it but because it resonates. I’ve given up as many new ideas as I have sampled but not philosophy. From a child I have always asked ‘what’s it all about’ it fascinates me and I think always will.

I believed in minimalism approach towards life. Keeping it simple, without the paraphernalia is the key to remain focused. What’s right for me, the answer comes from a introspective mind, because you are attracting the right energy. Relinquishing some of the burden of previous expectations makes life easier. When the world likes to complicate and amplify them through various mediums, it is necessary to know the answers are in the simplest of places in the ecosystem.

I think you are right, we find our own answers through an enquiring introspective mind. Simplicity is in all probability the key. I try to find answers in nature, the world around me every day, not in expensive seminars and workshops. Saying that I do like working groups / workshops with like minded people, I think there is a lot of energy created in a group of people working and thinking together. I probably don’t find these groups by accident either, it’s all in the plan.

Very true, after all, existence is the synergy of Air, water, Earth, and Sky (5 elements of Nature). When groups align without an effort it means people are meant to come together for a cause and it is nature’s will and plan.

Yes people are put in our way and us theirs, for a purpose bigger than we initially realise.

I think we have probably written a small book in the comments we have made tonight on a post of five and a half lines. That’s the beauty of philosophy, the question, however small or simple, can create something huge!

Good, we can compile this and see if we can elaborate this to an e-book to publish together. Our collaborative philosophical discourses can be thought of. What do you think?

Excellant idea, people will be quoting us for years to come 😉 Interesting though, I would be interested to know what others think of our philosophical ramblings 🙂

Let’s compile these conversations and the one which we had earlier. Let’s see how we can elaborate further and have a decent book. It it exceeds 300 pages we can approach for conventional printing or we can always go for self-publishing.

Lets see what we can do towards this. Interesting, it appears the answer we seek is not found in the initial question, as we initially think, but within the answers to that question!

For now put everything in a Word document., For now put our initials to mark the paragraphs, as they will be elaborated on for sure. We can work on the manuscript like with and do a peer review before we can go further. We will have solid content for sure.

Sounds like a solid plan Amitav, it will be an interesting project that I look forward to and enjoy.

Surely will be a fantastic work. We have to work on the manuscript simultaneously and review our work to merge it seamlessly for the book. I guess if we present our ideas it will be around 350 pages, at least my estimate. Let’s see how we can take this forward.

I will look forward to this, also I’ll go back and look at our previous conversations, I believe we have had quite a few now. This will be interesting and hopefully we will learn something along the way : )

That would be great. Importantly, when we manage to finish this work, we will have learnt a few things of our own and even may have gone somewhere in philosophical discussion where others may have missed out. You never know. 🙂

It’s out there for the taking Amitav, might be a very good thing for us and helpful and hopefully insightful for others.

Providing insights through some unconventional ways and concrete logic will pave the way for new way of thinking and can ignite minds too.

A new way, or from a different viewpoint, it’s the different approach that makes it interesting, like a Q&A a couple of philosophers tinkering with the bigger questions in life, I like it.

Interesting format too. More of a conversational style delving into the philosophical unknowns to unravel answers that are around us. Let me know when you have collated the comments/discussions in a Words doc. (take your time) and after you send me the manuscript I will have fair idea about how much content we already have and plan how we can develop on it.

Okay will be a day of so as I have a big project ahead of me tomorrow. It will be good to get it down and see what we have.

Absolutely fine with me. We are anyways going to take it at a slow pace, because dealing with philosophy will throw lot of questions at us, so we need to iron them out and then write elaborately. In the mean time you can think about it and decide. Only when we both are convinced we shall start. 🙂
